New Moon Total Solar Eclipse in Leo 20°

Leo/Aquarius axis

The New Moon will conjunct the Sun at 20° Leo and is also a Total Solar Eclipse, making this far more significant than an ordinary New Moon.

The South Node is now travelling through Leo with the North Node in Aquarius, opening a longer cycle around what we are ready to release and where we are being asked to evolve.

Leo rules the individual, creativity, visibility, heart and personal expression, while Aquarius takes that knowledge and asks how it can contribute to something larger. This eclipse begins clearing the parts of Leo that have become attached to drama, validation, recognition, or outdated behaviours and attitudes still running in the background from our early conditioning and past incarnations.

To help you understand how I read a chart, I am going to use mine as an example.

I am an Aquarian with Saturn at 23° Aquarius in my 8th house of shared resources, intimacy and partnership. This eclipse falls into my 2nd house in Leo and sits opposite my Saturn, directly activating the 2nd/8th house axis of my money, value and self-worth against shared finances, partnership, trust and commitment.

Saturn represents the foundations we build through responsibility and hard work, so this is quite a significant activation for me.

When I cast this eclipse chart for where I am in Queensland, the Ascendant is around 4° Cancer. My natal Ascendant is 0° Cancer, and my North Node is 10° Cancer, placing another major personal point right across this eclipse chart.

This adds another layer to the story because Cancer rules home, family, belonging, emotional security and where we put down our roots. When you look at what is physically happening in my life at the same time, you can see how astrology begins to play itself out through real events rather than simply being something we read from an ephemeris.

Then I took a look at my partner.

His natal Nodes sit on the Leo/Aquarius axis, and he is moving into his nodal-return cycle. His Moon in Cancer sits on my North Node, while my Aquarius Sun sits on his North Node.

My Sun is in the 8th house, his Moon is in the 8th house, and his South Node in Leo sits in his 9th house of overseas travel, beliefs, and major changes in life direction.

His previous life chapter has been falling away while the 9th-house story is becoming very literal, in the form of a plane ride across the world to build a new life with me here in Australia.

For me, this is karmic astrology and very much what I would describe as twin-flame territory, repeated nodal and luminary contacts, 8th-house connections and major transits activating together.

I don't look at one aspect in isolation and decide what a relationship is. I look for repetition.

When the Nodes, Sun and Moon continually connect between two charts, the 8th house is strongly activated, and current transits begin triggering those same points at the same time as major events unfold in the physical world, that is when I start paying very close attention.

The next 12 months are especially important to us because that is approximately the timeframe we are working with for his relocation.

This is also a good example of why an astrology reading is so much more than looking at your Sun sign.

One planet opens a conversation, another adds information, the houses show where it is taking place, the aspects show how those energies interact, and the transits tell us when those areas of life are being activated.

Then I add what is physically happening in the person's life, the psychological drivers behind their behaviours, their nervous system responses, childhood conditioning and repeating paradigms.

This is where the chart comes alive.

Psychologically, the South Node asks us to release the drama, childhood paradigms, pain, and old attitudes that are still running the show and no longer support where we are going.

Some of these behaviours have been running since childhood, others may feel so deeply embedded that they appear instinctive.

We keep repeating them because they are familiar, and the nervous system often interprets familiar as safe, even when the outcome continually gives us something we don't want.

This is the time to rewrite the script and begin behaving in alignment with where you are heading.

You cannot create a different future while continually repeating the behaviours that created your past.

Leo asks us to look at how much of our identity has been built around being noticed, accepted, praised, loved or validated by other people.

There is nothing wrong with recognition, we all like to know our efforts are appreciated, however problems begin when our sense of value depends upon receiving it.

This is where the opposition to Aquarius becomes important.

Aquarius plants seeds of information and wisdom that can create reform for humanity, while Leo asks us to find the courage to be seen.

One says, this is who I am.

The other says, now what are you going to do with it?

This is particularly important for people running spiritual businesses, coaching businesses, healing practices or working in areas where their knowledge and lived experience can help someone else.

If you run a spiritual business, it's time to get yourself out there.

Use the tools you already have and share your knowledge and wisdom, as the world needs you right now.

Many people spend years collecting qualifications, taking courses, developing their intuition, learning new modalities and gathering information, yet they remain frightened to step forward and actually use it.

At some point we have to stop preparing to become the person we already are.

Leo brings visibility.

Aquarius brings contribution.

Together they ask us to have the courage to stand in our individuality while contributing something meaningful to the collective.

In the esoteric system I use, Vulcan travelling with this eclipse adds focus, purpose and the ability to intuit what needs our attention.

Vulcan works differently from the traditional planets I use in psychological astrology. I look at Vulcan through an esoteric lens and pay attention to where intense focus, inner forging and purpose are developing.

This can feel like something inside you is continually pulling your attention towards a particular direction.

You may have an idea that will not leave you alone.

You may suddenly know what needs to change.

You may feel compelled to study something, teach something, write something or finally step forward with work that you have been quietly developing behind the scenes.

Pay attention to what keeps calling you.

There is usually information in it.

With Pluto travelling through Aquarius, things are shifting quickly, and the dead wood is being cleared so new growth can emerge.

Pluto transforms whatever it touches.

It exposes what has been buried, brings unconscious material into awareness and forces us to look at what has reached the end of its usefulness.

Aquarius rules systems, communities, groups, technology, innovation and our relationship with the collective, so over the coming years we are going to continue seeing major changes in the structures we have become accustomed to.

On an individual level, this can also change where we belong.

People change.

Friendships change.

Communities change.

The things that once interested us may no longer carry the same vibration.

This is part of evolution.

Sometimes we keep trying to revive something simply because it once mattered to us, when its purpose has already been fulfilled.

This eclipse asks us to recognise the difference.

The 2nd/8th house activation in my own chart also brings the relationship between self-worth and finances directly into focus.

The 2nd house is not simply money.

It speaks about what we value, what we believe we deserve, our personal resources, our talents and what we are capable of creating for ourselves.

The 8th house then asks what happens when we combine those resources with another person.

It covers shared finances, intimate partnerships, trust, vulnerability, investments, debts, inheritances and the psychological transformation that takes place through deeply intertwined relationships.

When self-value changes, financial behaviour often changes with it.

What we charge changes.

What we tolerate changes.

What we accept changes.

The opportunities we allow ourselves to pursue change.

The way we negotiate changes.

The way we show up in our business changes.

This is why I don't separate the psychological work from astrology.

Your chart may show the potential, but your programming has a great deal to do with how you use it.

Two people can experience exactly the same transit and respond completely differently because they are operating through different conditioning, beliefs, levels of awareness and nervous system patterns.

Astrological energy itself is neutral.

What we do with it depends upon the individual.

This is particularly important when looking at eclipses because they have developed a rather dramatic reputation over the years.

An eclipse does not automatically mean something terrible is going to happen.

It brings an area of the chart into focus and can accelerate developments that have already been building underneath the surface.

Sometimes this brings an ending.

Sometimes an opportunity.

Sometimes information comes to light.

Sometimes the change has already been happening quietly for months and the eclipse simply makes it impossible to ignore any longer.

A Solar Eclipse is also a New Moon, so there is still a seed being planted.

The difference is that the nodal involvement gives the lunation a deeper evolutionary theme.

Something is being released while something else begins.

This is why I would look at the whole chart before making predictions about what an eclipse means for someone personally.

If you have your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Nodes or personal planets close to 20° Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, this eclipse will either conjunct, square or oppose those voices in your natal chart.

Leo receives the conjunction, Aquarius the opposition, and Taurus and Scorpio the square.

Gemini and Libra placements near 20° receive a sextile, while Aries and Sagittarius receive a trine.

These vibrations are positive in frequency, however it is up to the individual and their programming how they will react or respond to these neutral frequencies.

The closer your placement is to 20°, the stronger the activation.

I would generally begin by looking several degrees either side of 20°, then narrow the interpretation according to how close the planet or point is to the eclipse.

The exact degree will usually speak the loudest.

If you have planets further away, the eclipse may still activate that particular house without making a strong aspect to the planet itself.

This is why knowing your birth time becomes so valuable.

Look at where 20° Leo falls in your chart.

That house tells you where the new chapter is beginning, while the opposition to Aquarius will show you what needs to change.

If Leo falls in your 1st house, look at identity, appearance and how you present yourself to the world.

If it falls in your 2nd, look at money, values, resources and self-worth.

The 3rd brings communication, thinking, learning and your immediate environment into focus.

The 4th brings home, family, ancestry and emotional foundations.

The 5th brings creativity, children, romance, joy and self-expression.

The 6th brings work, daily routines, service and health habits.

The 7th brings intimate relationships, partnerships and contracts.

The 8th brings shared resources, intimacy, trust, psychological transformation and financial entanglements.

The 9th brings overseas travel, higher education, spirituality, beliefs and expansion beyond what you already know.

The 10th brings career, purpose, reputation and visibility in the world.

The 11th brings friendships, communities, networks, future goals and the groups you belong to.

The 12th brings the subconscious, endings, retreat, spiritual development and the patterns operating behind the scenes.

Then look directly across the chart to Aquarius.

The two houses work together.

One cannot change without having some effect on the other.

This is why an opposition is not simply two energies fighting each other.

It creates awareness.

It asks us to see both sides and find a more conscious way of working with them.

The Leo/Aquarius axis asks us to find the balance between individuality and community, between being seen and contributing, between personal creativity and collective purpose.

We do not need to lose our individuality to belong to a community, and we do not need to diminish somebody else's light in order to allow our own to shine.

This eclipse is asking us to take what we have learned, clear the behaviours and paradigms that no longer belong in our future, and become more visible in the life we are trying to create.

Things are shifting fast.

Pluto in Aquarius is continuing to clear the ground, the Nodes are changing the direction of the story, and this eclipse brings another opportunity to consciously participate in what comes next.

Burn the weeds.

Clear the dead wood.

Let the Sun reach what you are trying to grow.

Then give it somewhere to grow towards.
